Pictured above is the SL 35 with two VFDs - this will be the standard supply for newly purchased SL 35 units from now on. The text in the display is slightly smaller than in the LCDs, but brighter. The same number of characters is displayed across the screen. This display was previously a higher cost than the LCD. It is now being supplied at the same price as the LCD models. In fact the price of the SL 35 has recently been reduced.
LightWRITER model - announcement - February 2010
At this time the LightWRITER models are in a transitional phase.
The most common and popular model, the SL35, pictured here, is being phased out. In Australia the SL35 will continue to be available for purchase until around the middle of 2010.
The displays on the unit pictured here are liquid crystal displays (LCD), which are no longer available, so any newly purchased SL35 will have vacuum fluorescent displays (VFD), pictured below.
REPAIRS and SUPPORT: ZYTEQ and Toby Churchill Ltd are committed to supporting the SL35 and other phased out models for five years after the date that production ceases for a particular model. This is a legal requirement so please be assured that repairs and support will be ongoing for the 'phased out' models.
DISCONTINUED MODELS: Other models being phased out are: SL5, SL55, SL56, SL38, SL85. If you have a specific requirement for one of these models please enquire as the possibility of having a new unit at manufactured as a one-off, can be investigated. Alternatively we may have ex-demo, ex-loan unit is available for sale as second-hand, if this suits the need.
SL40 LightWRITER
The SL40 LightWRITER is the new keyboard (direct access) model which is currently available in some countries. It is almost ready for release in Australia. The model due for release in March is the 'standard' model which offers text-to-speech communication using high quality Acapela speech. Natural selection word prediction, stored phrases and a notebook section are all stnadrd features. Dual large bright displays and a compact style are popular features of this model.
Future models include the SL40 SIM with text messaging capability and the Connect model with voice calling facility. These will not be available for quite some time in Australia. If you are interested in the SL40 LightWRITER we are currently able to provide short-term trials through our regular loan program. The loan program provides devices for one or two weeks for the purpose of trying out the functionality of the unit.
